Scott Schaffer grew up in Montpelier, Idaho and graduated from Bear Lake High School. After completing a two year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in The Dakotas, he attended Idaho State University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Nursing. After graduation he moved to Boise Idaho where he was employed as a Registered Nurse at Saint Alphonsus Medical Center working full time in the Intensive Care Unit, where he gained valuable assessment skills caring for a wide variety of patients. After spending two years in that department he transitioned to the hospital Emergency Department. He enjoyed the fast pace of emergency medicine. It was during this time he
also continued his education earning a master’s degree in nursing at Idaho State University, graduating in May 2013.
Scott is certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner through the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. He has been working in family practice and primary care for six years and has a diverse background in acute care, pre-surgical care, correctional healthcare, family practice, wellness programs and urgent care. He is trained and certified in the insertion and removal of the Nexplanon implant. Scott is also a certified medical examiner for the Department of Transportation. He is a trained and certified provider with the Vaccines for Children (VFC) program.
When Scott is not attending to his patients he can be found spending time with his wife of 15 years, his young daughter and their family pet morkie named Ruger! He enjoys many outdoor activities like golfing, hunting and camping.
Scott Barlow is proud to have grown up in the Pocatello-Chubbuck area where he has established many life-long relationships with friends, neighbors and business associates. He is a proud Idaho State University alumnus. He earned a bachelors degree from ISU in 2012 and is currently enrolled in the Doctor of Nursing Practice program in the Family Nurse Practitioner track at ISU. Throughout his doctoral training he has had the privilege of being instructed by many of the area’s most talented physicians and providers in primary care and specialty areas of medicine. Scott is on track to complete his doctoral training in the summer of 2019, after which he looks forward to treating patients of all ages at the Family Medical Clinic of Chubbuck!
Scott comes from a diverse background in the healthcare industry. He has worked in numerous roles in healthcare administration and management, as well as a diverse array of clinical practice areas. Scott has always been interested in improving the business of healthcare to meet consumer needs. As a young man he was awarded the Young Entrepreneur Award from the National Federation of Independent Business and he has always been eager to do the best to ensure customers and patients are satisfied with their experiences.
As much as Scott enjoys the challenge of business, there is one thing in the healthcare industry he loves more… his patients! He has always had a strong appreciation for one-on-one patient interactions and finds great joy in building relationships with individuals and families in the clinic and community.
He attended Brigham Young University in Provo, UT for one year, where he engaged in Spanish language studies. He also lived in South America for two-years where he became fluent in Spanish. He has had great experiences caring for members of our local Hispanic communities and hopes to build a patient base with Spanish-speaking patients in our clinic.
Scott is our organizational lead member with the NFIB, the Chamber of Commerce, the AANP, NP Idaho, the AHA, and other organizational associations. He was inducted into the honors society of Phi Kappa Phi as a graduate student and as an undergrad was a multi-semester deans list nominee and graduated cum laude.
Scott’s hobbies include flying airplanes, golfing and playing competitive sports, hunting, camping and above all else spending time at home and traveling with his beautiful, talented wife Amy and their three children!
